Orgiverm is the brand name for vermicompost produced by Kikaboni. In addition to that a demonstration unit for organic farming has been set up. Through this project it envisions to ‘go back’ to the ways of farming that cared for the land, water, air, flora and fauna. The objective of Kikaboni is to sensitise, organise and capacitate the farmer community of Paota village of Haryana to adopt organic farming techniques. In the process it aims (A) to improve the soil quality by increasing its carbon content and enhancing its water retention, (B) reduce the over-usage of inorganic fertilisers and pesticides and (C) enhance the water table by promoting its usage responsibly. The demonstration farm aims to give a hand on experience for learning organic farming techniques and experience the process of production by seeing, holding and doing. Under this project we make available vermicompost, provide learning opportunities for farmers in producing vermicompost for their own usage and conduct guided tours of the organic farm.
The organic soap production is a hand crafted technique that requires manual labour; it needs organic extracts from fruits, medicinal plants, flowering shrubs/herbs and agricultural produce. Hence while this project looks at creating livelihood opportunities for women on one hand, it also looks at integrating locally available raw material on the other augmenting the income of farmers, traders and people in the community in the whole process. In this process there is also the scope for reviving and mainstreaming indigenous knowledge of preventive cure and healing. We are looking at setting up production and marketing unit for organic soap and creating a self-sustained economic enterprise.
Creating consumer network to educate about consumption pattern and make a shift towards responsible purchase for responsible living. The organic produce of the farm is made available to them through home delivery.
